The department states that the Intellexa Consortium was used against U.S. public officials.
This week, the Department of the Treasury imposed seven sanctions against the Greek-based spyware vendor Intellexa, making a “first-of-its-kind” step to curb spyware head-on. President Biden’s administration found that the company’s spyware technology was regularly used to target journalists, dissidents, and U.S. officials.
The Treasury Department stated, “Once a device is infected by the Predator spyware, the spyware can be leveraged for a variety of information stealing and surveillance capabilities—this includes the unauthorized extraction of data, geolocation tracking, and access to a variety of applications and personal information on the compromised device.”
Greece has few cybersecurity laws, which allows Intellexa to operate as a legal entity.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Under Secretary Brian Nelson as he heads the Treasury’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
- For Secretary Yellen to receive God’s direction as she oversees the Treasury Department.
- For U.S. officials as they determine how and on which entities to impose sanctions.
